The Coronation Medal was created to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, which took place on May 6, 2023.

The first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation, it recognizes individuals who have made an important contribution to a province, territory, region, or community in Canada, or who have accomplished an exceptional achievement abroad that has brought great honour to our country.

Of the 30,000 medals awarded across Canada, the Cabinet of the Lieutenant Governor of Québec presented a total of 1,647 — making it the institution that presented the greatest number of medals in Québec, and the second highest in the country, after the Canadian Armed Forces.
