Change to the Institution’s Name
On December 3, 2024, in a meaningful gesture and in full alignment with the values championed by the Lieutenant Governor, the Office formally adopted a feminized title for the role—an historic first—by unveiling a new plaque at the building’s entrance.
From now on, the inscription at the entrance proudly reads “Cabinet of the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec,” in accordance with the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.
This initiative, both symbolic and deeply significant, was marked in the presence of dignitaries and leaders committed to advancing parity and the recognition of women in public life.
The Lieutenant Governor underscored the historic and forward-looking significance of this action, which celebrates both the richness of the French language and the full recognition of women in state roles.
This defining moment of 2024 reflects a clear commitment to modernizing the symbols of our democracy so they reflect contemporary realities and convey an inspiring message for younger generations.
