The Lieutenant Governor Welcomes the
Royal Delegation of Sweden to Quebec
On November 20, 2025, as part of an official visit by the Swedish delegation to Canada, the Lieutenant Governor, Manon Jeannotte, had the honour of welcoming Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia to Quebec, accompanied by a Swedish delegation, for a convivial luncheon held in Montreal.
Building Connections Between Nations Through Shared Values
This meeting was part of an effort to strengthen and deepen relations between Canada and Sweden. Discussions focused on several key issues, including reconciliation—a central value of Ms. Jeannotte’s mandate and a priority that also holds significant importance in Sweden.
The Swedish people are in fact expecting, in the coming months, the release of the report from the Swedish Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the Sami people. This parallel between the approaches of the two nations gave rise to rich discussions, illustrating how distinct societies can be brought together by shared commitments.
A Gift Full of Meaning
On the occasion of this meeting, the Lieutenant Governor presented Their Majesties with a friendship bowl crafted by a Wendat artisan from Wendake.
The participants
The meeting took place in the presence of Her Excellency Signe Burgstaller, Ambassador of Sweden to Canada, His Excellency Robert Sinclair, Ambassador of Canada to Sweden, Countess Anna Hamilton, First Lady of the Court, and Ms. Cecilia Ruthstrom-Ruin, Deputy Director General and Head of the Europe and North America Department at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
